The Spring Laser Clinic uses advanced laser technology and advanced
cosmeceutical products from Jan Marini to effectively treat active acne. How does Intense Pulse Light (IPL) work?
The IPL consists of yellow, green and red intense light that is emitted
in a series of short pulses. The yellow light emitted by the IPL
destroys the bacteria that live in the skin and cause acne, while the
red light directly targets the overactive sebaceous glands that cause
outbreaks of pustules. The heating effect of the IPL deep in the
skin helps to prevent over-production of excess sebum.
The results can be improved if the IPL treatments are used in
combination with glycolic acid products from Jan Marini. These
remove dead skin and unblock pores and enable the IPL to penetrate the
skin more effectively. Who can be treated? The only people who cannot be treated are: - Very dark skinned people. - People with suntans. - Pregnant women. - People taking the drug Roaccutane. How is the treatment carried out? As
individuals react in different ways to the treatment, a test patch is
always taken to ensure that there are no adverse reactions.
A thin layer of gel is applied to the skin. This helps cool the skin
and ensures that light is transmitted effectively from the IPL to the
skin. The rectangular quartz applicator is placed in contact with
the skin surface over the affected area. The light is pulsed
through the quartz and onto the skin. The applicator is then
moved to the next area and the process repeated. Number and length of treatment sessions? A typical treatment session will take 15 to 45 minutes.
The number of treatments varies from person to person. Typically
one to five treatments will be needed. Treatments should take
place every two to four weeks. Does it hurt?
As the light energy is absorbed by the skin, it heats up and creates
the sensation of a sharp pinprick. No anaesthesia is required,
other than cooling the skin. What should I expect after the treatment? Redness
and a slight burning sensation are normal after treatment. Any
redness generally dies down within 30 minutes, but some people may
remain red for up to 24 hours. The skin is cooled after treatment
to ease these symptoms.
It is necessary to avoid sun exposure or to use a high protection
sunscreen for two to four weeks after treatment. The Spring Laser
Clinic recommends and supplies sunscreen from Jan Marini for this
purpose. Are there any side effects?
Most patients experience no side-effects other than a temporary
reddening of the skin. Very rarely, the skin may become darker or
lighter or a small blister may form. It is also possible that
some hair loss may occur and, as this could be permanent, men should
consider this before agreeing to treatment of their beard area. There are also positive side effects as many people find that their skin texture and tone dramatically improve. |
